COMPUTER AND WIFI USE POLICY

Information resources will be used by community members with respect for the public trust in accordance with policy and regulations established by the La Porte County Family YMCA’s Board of Directors.

 

 

 

INTERNET DISCLAIMER

The Internet enables the La Porte County Family YMCA to provide information beyond the confines of its own collections. It allows access to ideas, information, and commentary from around the globe and a vast array of tools and resources for different age levels and points-of-view. Parents/guardians and users of the Internet should know that the Internet contains materials of a controversial nature. The Y does not endorse the viewpoints or vouch for the accuracy of information obtained through the Internet.

 

 

ACCEPTABLE USE

All computer workstations will be managed in a manner consistent with its Policy on Appropriate Behavior.

 

 

UNACCEPTABLE USE

Unacceptable use includes the following:

  • Using the Internet for malicious purposes. Examples include hampering others’ Internet use, intentionally developing programs that bother other users, hacking a computer or computing systems, gaining access to information or resources without permission by the owners or right holders, distributing unsolicited advertising, spreading computer viruses.

  • Breaking any local, state, or federal law.

  • Conspiring to commit crimes.

  • Conducting illicit transactions.

  • Accessing pornographic, obscene, or sexually explicit material.

  • Violating copyright and license laws.

  • Vandalizing or disabling the property of the La Porte County Family YMCA.

  • Disruptive and/or inappropriate behavior including excessive volume, either in conversation or from headphones.

  • Any user whose conduct violates federal, state or local laws will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. La Porte County Family YMCA will cooperate with the proper authorities in the investigation of illegal activities.

 

 

USE OF WI-FI

  • Wi-Fi access is free and filtered.

  • The wireless connection is on an unsecured network.

  • Printing from the wireless network is not available.

  • La Porte County Family YMCA staff can offer basic assistance for establishing a connection, but are not able to give advanced technical help.

  • The La Porte County Family YMCA is not responsible for hardware or software damages.

  • The La Porte County Family YMCA is not responsible for theft of unattended equipment.

  • The La Porte County Family YMCA reserves the right to terminate a wireless Internet session at any time.

  • Minors should only access the connection under parental or guardian supervision . Any restrictions, limitations, and monitoring of a minor’s access to the Y’s public wireless network is the sole responsibility of the parent/guardian.
