Our Y Sports programs emphasize sportsmanship, fair play and teamwork; emphasize the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility; keep winning in perspective; enable all participants to play in every game; include family involvement; include coaches and officials training; emphasize safety and age-appropriate progressive skill development; emphasize using volunteers as coaches and officials; and are open to all segments of the community.

Preschool Spring Soccer 

For those little ones who love all things sports! This program is packed full of fun and learning opportunities. Players will develop basic soccer skills and learn the importance of team-building during scheduled practices and games at our Andrew Avenue Outdoor Education & Recreation Facility. We believe in the power of play! 

Dates:  April 26 - June 7

Preschool T-Ball

Our new preschool T-Ball program provides your 3-5 year old with a fun atmosphere designed to teach fundamentals, teamwork and sportsmanship. The season consists of games and practices, held at Andrew Avenue Outdoor Education & Recreation Facility, that will encourage your little one to field and hit the ball while having tons of fun playing on their first sports team. Always learning, growing and achieving at the Y.  REGISTRATION BEGINS APRIL 26! 

Dates:     June 14- July 12

Ages:      3-5 yrs.

Fees:      $36 Member/ $54 Non-Member

Preschool Flag Football

Introduce your child to the fun game of flag football! 3-5 year olds who participate will learn passing and other aspects of the game that will keep them keep active by developing skills such as hand-eye coordination. In addition, children will have an opportunity to learn leadership skills and build self-esteem as they improve their technique. Dedicated volunteer coaches will help your little one enjoy their first sports experience. The season consists of games and practices, held at Andrew Avenue Outdoor Education & Recreation Facility. REGISTRATION BEGINS APRIL 26!

Youth (K-5) Spring Soccer 

Spring Soccer is the perfect opportunity to keep your child active and healthy. Every player gets the chance to improve their soccer and team-building skills. Games and practices are safe, fun and played at Andrew Avenue Outdoor Education & Recreation Facility. Our coaches and volunteers emphasize fair play and sportsmanship while encouraging the Y's Core Values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Registration going on now!  (To be guaranteed a t-shirt, registration must be complete by April 12).

Dates:  April 5 (Skills Clinic) April 19-May 31 (Games Begin. No Games May 24)

2014 SPRING SCHEDULE

Youth Flag Football

Introducing our new youth flag football program! Learn football fundamentals without heavy contact. This program focuses on teamwork in a positive and structured environment. Kids will learn basic passing and plays along with other aspects of the game that will keep them active. In addition, children will have an opportunity to develop leadership skills and build self-esteem as they improve their technique this summer. All games and practices will be held at Andrew Avenue Outdoor Education and Recreation Facility. We look forward to seeing you on the field! REGISTRATION BEGINS APRIL 26TH!  (To be guaranteed a t-shirt, registration must be complete by July 5th).

Tae Kwon Do

This program is run by Black Belts Jerry and Mary Crosslin, who have conducted the Y's martial art program since 1993. Their outstanding program is held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:00 p.m. for beginners and 6:00 p.m. for advanced. Jerry and Mary have instructed the Korean Art for over two decades. Jerry owns a 5th Degree Black Belt and Mary has reached the rank of 3rd Degree Black Belt. The program honors existing ranks and no contracts are required.

Youth (K-5) Boys Basketball (Fall)

Basketball fundamentals, character development and fun with the organization that invented the game-the Y! In the hands of caring volunteer coaches, players begin their season with a skills clinic, followed by scheduled games and practices.

Fees:  $42 Member/ $ 60 Non-Member  

Youth Coed Indoor Soccer (Winter)

For those K-5th graders who love soccer, this winter league is indoors and a ton of fun! Players will enhance their soccer and teamwork skills during games and scheduled practices. Volunteer coaches and Y staff will encourage your child to build confidence that will keep them learning, growing and achieving all winter long. We look forward to seeing you this season!

Youth & Preschool Cheerleading (Fall & Winter)

Cheerleaders will build self-confidence while developing social skills and healthy relationships with others. Learn the fundamentals of cheerleading including basic motions, jumps, tumbling and cheers and chants. Participants practice once weekly learning a routine to cheer at the Saturday, March 1st Youth Boys Basketball game. 

Ages:           Preschool & Grades K-5

Practices:     Preschool/Saturday's 11 am-Noon & K-5/Thursday's 6-7 pm

2nd Chance Youth (K-5) COED Basketball (Winter)

Does your child want another four weeks of fun hoop action? New teams, friends and character building are all a part of our Second-Chance Youth Co-ed Basketball program. One weekly practice for 2/3rd grade and 4/5th grade divisions will begin the 4 week session. We are always looking for volunteers for coaches and referees.

Preschool Basketball (Winter)

For those little ones who love all things sports, this program is packed full of fun and learning opportunities. Players enjoy developing team building and basic basketball skills during games and scheduled practices at the La Porte branch gymnasiums. We believe in the power of play!

Seaweed Tumbleweed

This is a great combination of Skipper swimming lessons followed by a Tumbling class. Each component is a half-hour long. The program, begins in the pool (9:00 - 9:30 a.m.) for games, songs, beginning instructional swim and safety. Then the activities move up to the gym (9:45-10:15 a.m.) for somersaults, animal walks, tunnels, trampolines and scooter boards. F-U-N!

Ages:     1 - 3 years old

Join Coach Rob Walker for five intense workout sessions in basketball skills, drills and thrills. Players will work on moving without the ball, one-on-one moves, shooting, passing, improving speed and increasing their vertical jump. For any age or gender, but all participants should be able to dribble the ball with both hands and be physically fit so they can handle the rigors of a one-hour workout.

 

Camp will be held from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on April 10, 12, 17, 19 and 24 in the Swanson Gym. The cost is $15 for members or $25 for non-members. Registration begins March 26 at the Y’s Member Services Desk or on-line at www.lpymca.org
