The La Porte County Family YMCA strengthens the foundations of our community through well-being and fitness, camps, family time, swim, sports and play, and other activities for people of all ages, incomes and abilities. Our Y Sports programs emphasize sportsmanship, fair play and teamwork; emphasize the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility; keep winning in perspective; enable all participants to play in every game; include family involvement; include coaches and officials training; emphasize safety and age-appropriate progressive skill development; emphasize using volunteers as coaches and officials; and are open to all segments of the community.  

Current Running Programs:

Preschool Flag Football

Introduce your child to the fun game of flag football! 3-5 year olds who participate will learn passing and other aspects of the game that will keep them keep active by developing skills such as hand-eye coordination. In addition, children will have an opportunity to learn leadership skills and build self-esteem as they improve their technique. Dedicated volunteer coaches will help your little one enjoy their first sports experience. The season consists of games and practices, held at Andrew Avenue Outdoor Education & Recreation Facility. REGISTRATION BEGINS APRIL 26!

Dates:     July. 19 - Aug. 16 (Season)
Ages:      3-5 yrs.
Fees:      $42 Member/ $60 Non-Member

Youth Flag Football

Introducing our new youth flag football program! Learn football fundamentals without heavy contact. This program focuses on teamwork in a positive and structured environment. Kids will learn basic passing and plays along with other aspects of the game that will keep them active. In addition, children will have an opportunity to develop leadership skills and build self-esteem as they improve their technique this summer. All games and practices will be held at Andrew Avenue Outdoor Education and Recreation Facility. We look forward to seeing you on the field! REGISTRATION BEGINS APRIL 26TH!  (To be guaranteed a t-shirt, registration must be complete by July 5th).

Youth & Preschool Cheerleading 

Cheerleaders will build self-confidence while developing social skills and healthy relationships with others. Learn the fundamentals of cheerleading including basic motions, jumps, tumbling and cheers and chants. Participants practice once weekly learning a routine to cheer at a game for the current seasonal sport. 

Ages:           Preschool & Grades K-5
Practices:     Preschool/Saturday's 11 am-Noon & K-5/Thursday's 6-7 pm
Fees:           $42 Member / $60 Non-Member

Tae Kwon Do

This program is run by Black Belts Jerry and Mary Crosslin, who have conducted the Y's martial art program since 1993. Their outstanding program is held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:00 p.m. for beginners and 6:00 p.m. for advanced. Jerry and Mary have instructed the Korean Art for over two decades. Jerry owns a 5th Degree Black Belt and Mary has reached the rank of 3rd Degree Black Belt. The program honors existing ranks and no contracts are required.

                         Age 18 and Over $46 Member / $104 Non-Member

The Y only issues cash refunds if a program is cancelled for any reason other than weather related.  There are no refunds or credits issued for weather related cancellations. Credits are given only if there is a medical reason. A doctor’s note must be provided in order to receive the credit.

Join Coach Rob Walker for five intense workout sessions in basketball skills, drills and thrills. Players will work on moving without the ball, one-on-one moves, shooting, passing, improving speed and increasing their vertical jump. For any age or gender, but all participants should be able to dribble the ball with both hands and be physically fit so they can handle the rigors of a one-hour workout.


Camp will be held from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on April 10, 12, 17, 19 and 24 in the Swanson Gym. The cost is $15 for members or $25 for non-members. Registration begins March 26 at the Y’s Member Services Desk or on-line at www.lpymca.org
