STRENGTHENING COMMUNITY IS OUR CAUSE

The La Porte County Family YMCA is a leading nonprofit for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. We are a powerful association of men, woman and children of all ages and from all walks of life joined together by a shared passion: to strengthen the foundations of our community.

With a commitment to nurturing the potential of kids, promoting healthy living and fostering a sense of social responsibility. Our Y ensures that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. To do our important work, our Y relies on support from members, donors, volunteers and community leaders.

Our Y believes that lasting personal and social change can only come about when we all work together to invest in our kids, our health and our community. Every day our impact is felt when a mentor inspires a child, when an individual makes a healthy choice and when the community comes together for the common good.

Our Y is, and always will be, dedicated to building healthy, confident, connected and secure children, adults, families and communities. There is no other nonprofit quite like the Y. Be a part of a cause committed to moving people and communities forward.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

The Y is the leading nonprofit committed to strengthening our community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Through our Educare program, we are committed to providing a safe, nurturing environment for children to learn and develop social skills.

Our caring, loving staff are eager and ready to help your child grow and thrive. Our program serves children from 3 to 4 year old. We strive to provide a safe, healthy, nurturing environment for children. Our Y includes a play-based curriculum that nurtures the spirit, mind and body. Our curriculum follows the Indiana foundations for young children and is aligned with kindergarten common core standards. Our staff members provide education in gross and fine motor development skills, values education, character development, along with an opportunity to develop and improve social skills. Parents are able to go to work with peace of mind, confident that their children are safe and learning preschool skills that help them to successfully integrate into kindergarten.

Our quality staff are all CPR and First Aid trained. Lead teachers have received either their Early Childhood Education Degree, Elementary Education Degree or Child Development Associate Credential. The program serves breakfast and a snack for a small fee.

Children learn through play as they explore, manipulate materials, discover relationships and master new skills. Daily activities of art, music, movement and dramatic play enhance creative expression. Social development thrives in a caring environment that promotes a positive self-image and independence. The program uses the High Reach Curriculum and our new Creative Curriculum (gift of the Alcoa Foundation) in our Michigan City Educare Program and at our Childcare and Learning Center to direct the daily classroom activities which further the development of each young child. Daily reading and extensive use of language in all classrooms provide the basis for early literacy skills. The goal is to have every child ready for a successful kindergarten experience.

We are very excited to have the opportunity to provide Educare for pre-K children in the Michigan City Area Schools! Below is the information for each school. At the bottom of the page you may click on links for Registration forms and other helpful information.
