Welcome to the
The La Porte County Family YMCA strengthens the foundations of our community through well-being and fitness, camps, family time, swim, sports and play, and other activities for people of all ages, incomes and abilities. We’re more than just a place to work out. At the Y, we help build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all with the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility at the heart of everything we do.
With a commitment to nurturing youth development, promoting healthy living and fostering a sense of social responsibility, the Y ensures that every individual has access to the essentials needed to learn, grow and thrive.
The Y is the leading nonprofit committed to strengthening our community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Through our Educare program, we are committed to providing a safe, nurturing environment for children to learn and develop social skills.
Our caring, loving staff are eager and ready to help your child grow and thrive. Our program serves children from 3 to 4 year old. We strive to provide a safe, healthy, nurturing environment for children. Our Y includes a play-based curriculum that nurtures the spirit, mind and body. Our curriculum follows the Indiana foundations for young children and is aligned with kindergarten common core standards. Our staff members provide education in gross and fine motor development skills, values education, character development, along with an opportunity to develop and improve social skills. Parents are able to go to work with peace of mind, confident that their children are safe and learning preschool skills that help them to successfully integrate into kindergarten.
Our quality staff are all CPR and First Aid trained. Lead teachers have received either their Early Childhood Education Degree, Elementary Education Degree or Child Development Associate Credential. The program serves breakfast, lunch for a small fee and a snack.
Children learn through play as they explore, manipulate materials, discover relationships and master new skills. Daily activities of art, music, movement and dramatic play enhance creative expression. Social development thrives in a caring environment that promotes a positive self-image and independence. The program uses the High Reach Curriculum to direct the daily classroom activities which further the development of each young child. Daily reading and extensive use of language in all classrooms provide the basis for early literacy skills. The goal is to have every child ready for a successful kindergarten experience.
