La Porte County Family YMCA
STRENGTHENING COMMUNITY IS OUR CAUSE
The La Porte County Family YMCA is a leading nonprofit for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. We are a powerful association of men, woman and children of all ages and from all walks of life joined together by a shared passion: to strengthen the foundations of our community.
With a commitment to nurturing the potential of kids, promoting healthy living and fostering a sense of social responsibility. Our Y ensures that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. To do our important work, our Y relies on support from members, donors, volunteers and community leaders.
Our Y believes that lasting personal and social change can only come about when we all work together to invest in our kids, our health and our community. Every day our impact is felt when a mentor inspires a child, when an individual makes a healthy choice and when the community comes together for the common good.
Our Y is, and always will be, dedicated to building healthy, confident, connected and secure children, adults, families and communities. There is no other nonprofit quite like the Y. Be a part of a cause committed to moving people and communities forward.
When the bell rings at the end of the school day, children need a safe and nurturing place to go when their parents are still at work or away from home. According to the Afterschool Alliance, a nonprofit public awareness advocacy organization, 15.1 million children nationwide and 30 percent of children in Indiana alone are left unsupervised after 3 p.m., responsible for taking care of themselves. As a leading nonprofit committed to youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, the Y offers quality afterschool programs that not only help youth learn, grow and thrive, but keep them safe and surrounded by caring adults.
Our Y provides afterschool programs for children that attend Westville Elementary and Olive Elementary, Prairie View Elementary and Rolling Prairie Elementary in the New Prairie school district (housed at Rolling Prairie).
At Rolling Prairie school, the programs run from 6 a.m. until school starts and from the time that school is let out until 6 p.m.
At Westville, the program is only run after school, from the time school lets out until 6 p.m. Children are led in fun games, homework assistance, arts and crafts and are provided with a snack in the afternoon everyday.
Children also have the option of attending the school's breakfast in the morning. A one-time registration
fee of $10/one child or $15/two or more children is charged.
The cost is $2.50 per hour per child.
