NEWS FROM THE Y

Our 35th Annual USA Triathlon sanctioned event and will be held August 2, 2014! 

THE RACE

The race is a quarter-mile lake swim, a 12.4-mile bike and a 3.3-mile run. The course begins in Solders Memorial Park at the Stone Lake Beach House and winds through scenic La Porte County. The triathlon, which features chip timing, includes male and female divisions for ages 12 and up, as well as team categories. Included in fee is a cinch sack, collapsible water bottle, and a dry fit shirt. Race packet pick-up will take place Aug. 2nd from 6:30-7:30 AM (CST) at Cummings Lodge during registration.

ATTENTION SOCCER PARTICIPANTS:

Per the Traffic Commission and the Board of Public Works, the following temporary parking restrictions are in effect immediately from 6:00 am until Noon on May 10, May 17 and May 31.  Violators will be ticketed with no exceptions granted.

 The temporary parking restrictions include:

No parking on the east side of Andrew Avenue
No parking on the east side of L Street
No parking on the east side of K Street
No parking on the south side of 12th Street
No parking on the south side of 14th Street
No parking on the south side of 16th Street

Our first and foremost concern at all times is for the safety and well-being of our program participants, members and residents.  These parking restrictions have been implemented to reduce the risk of an emergency situation.  Thank you for your continued support of the La Porte County Family YMCA.

On May 6, 2014, La Porte County Family YMCA is joining more than 50 nonprofits throughout the county for a national day of local giving.

Marking the centennial anniversary of community foundations, Give Local La Porte County will allow La Porte County to generate significant funds for causes right in our own backyard. For one day, every dollar given to local nonprofits will be matched by funds from a national pool of sponsorships, as well as local matches—making every gift go further.

On May 6th, between 12 am-11:59 pm, go to one of the links below to help young people achieve their potential, empower people of all ages to lead healthier lives and strengthen the bond of our community.

Awarded to first fund to receive 25 unique gifts from 25 different donors.
Generous Neighbor Award  $1,000
Awarded to the first fund that gets 20 unique gifts of $100 or more.
Give Local Lunch  $1,000
Awarded to the fund the fund that gets the largest gift closest to 12 noon CST.
Home Stretch Award  $1,000
Awarded to the fund that secures the greatest number of unique gifts between the hours of 9 p.m. – 11:30 p.m. CST.
Over Achiever Award  $1,000
Awarded to the fund that achieves the greatest number of unique donors for the entire event.
Nickel Campaign     $500
Awarded to the fund that receives the greatest number of verifiable planned gifts by April 29th, 2014.

Ever think of trying Aqua Classes? Well here is your chance, on May 7th we will be offering two aqua classes and they will be open and free to the community! That's right, you do not need to be a member to try these classes out. The Y is here for you!

CAMP.  IT’S WITH YOU FOR LIFE

Camp is the perfect place for children Grades K-8 to be during Spring Break!

What better way to spend your Spring Break than at the YMCA Camp?  Each day of camp comes packed with the perfect amount of activities and fun. Children will get to make new friends, play exciting games and participate in activities in a structured and nurturing environment. Each day will have a theme; Make a Movie Monday, Tasty Tuesday, Wacky Wednesday, Talent Thursday, and Fitness Friday.

Activities include swimming, arts and crafts, Nintendo Wii, games in the gym, movies, snacks and much more! The cost is $20 per child per day for members and $30 for non-members. Thank you to all of the participants and volunteers who came out and made our event a huge success!  We had over 350 runners/walkers this past Saturday that helped raise money and awareness for our Annual Campaign.  We look forward to seeing all of you at our Triathlon on August 2nd.

SPRING BREAK DAY CAMP APRIL 7-11

Children can be dropped off as early as 6:30 a.m. and picked up as late as 6 p.m. Counselors lead children in scheduled activities throughout the day such as playing games in the gym, arts and crafts, an occasional movie, swimming and much more. Children bring a sack lunch, bathing suit and towel each day. Registration deadline is the Friday prior to the day of the camp. Non-members: $30/child & Members: $20/child

SPRING BREAK SPLASH! APRIL 7-11, AGES 4-12

Spring Break is the perfect time to get your kids in the pool! At the Y, we are always concerned about keeping families safe. That is why we offer inexpensive ways for kids to learn basic swimming skills and practice safety  habits in and around the water, which develops a sense of accomplishment and increased self-confidence and security. $25 per child for the entire week.
