We have --

A Vision:

Each child in our community will have access to safe, high quality early childhood education that fosters their social, emotion, physical, cognitive and creative development and promotes self-confidence and love of learning.

A Mission:

To provide affordable, quality care and education in a safe, secure, stimulating environment that nurtures each child’s mind, spirit and body through experienced-based, hands-on activities and play.

Educational Philosophy:

Children learn through play as they explore, manipulate materials, discover relationships and master new skills.  Daily activities of art, music, movement and dramatic play enhance creative expression.  Social development thrives in a caring environment that promotes a positive self-image and independence.  The Center’s uses the High Reach Curriculum to direct the daily classroom activities which further the development of each young child.  Daily reading and extensive use of language in all classrooms provide the basis for early literacy skills.  The goal is to have every child ready for a successful kindergarten experience.

Staff:

The Community Child Care and Learning Center employs teachers and classroom assistants who are committed to working with young children.  Lead teachers have earned their Child Development Associates degree through the Council for Professional Recognition.  An Educational Consultant with a degree in Early Childhood Education provides a resource to teachers and in-house expert in working with young children.

Parent Involvement

Research has shown that children do best when there is a connection between home and school.  To further parent involvement in the school, parent representatives serve on the Community Advisory Committee.  Parent meetings and workshops give all parents a chance to be involved in their child’s educational experience.

YMCA:

The Community Child Care and Learning Center is an important service component of the La Porte Family YMCA.  We further the mission of Strong Kids, Strong Families and Strong Communities.  As with all YMCA programs, the Center promotes the character values of honesty, caring, responsibility and respect.   A community advisory committee reviews yearly progress toward goals of outstanding service based on quality care and learning opportunities.

Food Program:

As a participant in the State of Indiana Food Program, the Center is able to provide breakfast, lunch and two snacks to each child.    There is no extra cost for food.

Child Care Voucher Service:

The Center accepts the State of Indiana Child Care Vouchers.  For information on voucher assistance, call Work One, 1-800-831-5007.

ISTAR:

The Center is one of a small number of preschools in the State of Indiana that participates in the ISTAR assessment system.  ISTAR is a teacher rating process to track a child’s development, identifying developmental delays and to allow for individualization of programs to enhance an individual child’s strengths and weaknesses.  ISTAR data also works to evaluate overall programming.
